Wakefield roofers DPR Roofing carried out some roofing works to a junior school in the Knottingley area of Wakefield last month.

DPR was asked to carry out a property inspection survey at St Botolphs C of E Academy School on behalf of Beaumont Morgan Developments that was in the process of completing a new extension on the school.

The inspection was to provide a suitable quote for roof coverings to be installed on the new extension as well as an older part of the school which had a flat roof.

With the quotes agreed, DPR’s team of Wakefield roofers arrived on the scheduled day to begin the project.

New Extension Roof Coverings

DPR started work on the extension by fitting new quality BNS747 breathable under-tile felt. This negates the requirement for fixed and aesthetically unappealing roof vents which can detract from the overall appearance of a new roof covering.

Next the roofers fit new pre-treated timber battens. These are horizontal timbers required to ‘hang’ and fix the new roof material to. It is important that these are treated to remove the possibility of de-fibre taking place.

To finish off, the new high quality interlocking Marley Modern concrete roof tiles were fitted, along with the new ridge tiles to new mortar bedding which were then pointed flush.

Once this part of the roof was completed it was on to the next part of the project.

Rear Elevation Flat Roof Coverings

Here the school had opted for a built-up felt roof which comes with a five year guarantee and which are also very simple to install.

The roofers applied the new torch-on membrane of high performance materials to all areas of the roof. Roofs of this kind have a life expectancy of around fifteen years from fitment.

Upon completion of the project all disturbed areas were returned to their original state and all resultant rubble from the works was removed and disposed of accordingly.
