Many domestic consumers and commercial businesses do very little or nothing at all to maintain their roof until they are exposed to the consequences – which is normally rain water coming through the ceiling. At this point most buyers will inevitably make a quick or panic based decision as they look to source a roofer who can provide an urgent solution to their problem. All too frequently, buyers do not take the time to assess whether the company being sourced is reliable, trustworthy and competitively priced.
Whilst experts constantly advise us to have our roof checked on a regular basis, many believe this is unrealistic, particularly in the current economic climate. So assuming the majority of consumers continue to purchase their roofing service in this way, how can we make it easy for them to make the right choice in that ‘emergency’ situation?
The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) has established itself as the leading roofing association in the UK, offering customers access to roofers that adhere to a strict code of practice. Established in 1892, today the NFRC has over 1,000 trade contractors and 150 associate members, representing over 70% of the roofing industry by value.
The NFRC’s main objective is to provide customers with access to a national directory of roofers who provide high standards of workmanship, operate sound business practices and are technically competent.
To become an NFRC member, roofers are independently vetted, and the quality of their work is assessed through site inspections. Members are also expected to adhere to the Government-endorsed TrustMark standards, hold comprehensive insurance and provide customers with insurance-backed warranties.
The NFRC also provides a unique directory of roofing companies who specialise in working on Heritage Buildings. Using traditional roofing techniques and materials, approved members are qualified to work on buildings of a historic nature. To qualify, heritage roofing companies must employ engineers who are hold the Roof Master or Craft Roofer qualification.
With a history of 120 years, NFRC considers itself as one of the major voices within the roofing industry. With roofing technologies consistently changing, the NFRC is constantly adapting to ensure that it continues to provide support to its members.
