Iconic Coronation Street locations are being re-roofed as HD television is prompting greater attention to detail on set.

The set-owners, Manchester’s  Granada Studios, awarded the contract to north-west roofing contractor KL Venning Slaters Ltd, who have been tasked with re-roofing famous buildings such as the Kabin, The Salon, Underworld, Street Cars, Victoria Terrace, The Medical Centre and of course…The Rovers Return.

With their famous slate and tiled roofing, many houses on the street will also be re-roofed and repaired.

The work comes as part of a big move for the street from Manchester’s Granada Studios to Trafford Wharf in Cheshire, due to the demands of high-definition television and subsequently the need for a larger-scale Weatherfield.

The ten roofers will be working on the 7.7 acre site for around two months.

DPR managing director Darren Rickett said: "It’s great that local roofing companies can get prestigious contracts like this. When Yorkshire’s soap – Emmerdale – needs new roofs on their cottages I hope DPR Roofing gets the call!”
